Top of the pops

I think they have given the magazine the name " Top of the Pops " because it brings back to the programme which creates a sense of originality and tradition to the magazine. It also uses the word " pop" to give an idea of the genre of the being a pop magazine. It is also quite a cheesy name and it rhymes which gives the impression it's happy and uplifting magazine.
The font used is very bold and has used sans serif. The writing is also quite big.I think this is to make the magazine appear more busy and that there's more in it than there actually is.Also, big writing can also look cheap which makes the magazine seem like a bargain.
The front cover uses bright colours such as yellow , pink and blue.I think they have chosen these colours because they connote happy and uplifting. It also makes the page look more colourful and more pleasing to look at which encourages people to buy it.The contrasting bright colours give an impression being quite tacky and cheap , which makes the magazine seem like a bargain. They have also used a mix of feminine and masculine colours to show its a magazine for both genders. The front cover has 6 different colours for the font , this makes the magazine seem bright and colourful. The main image has similarity's to the text , the boy band are wearing white which is used in the tittle. Also, Aston the main singer has a bright pink lipstick mark on his cheek , this colour is used in the font saying " KISS AND TELL ".
The use of language is fairly informal such as "14 half-dressed hotties! phwoar" this type of language is appealing to a young target audience.Numbers are frequently used "43 snogs&one broken heart" , " 14 half-dressed hotties!".Alliteration is used , under the tittle they have repeated the word "more " three times , this empathises the word and the meaning. The cover also uses persuasive language such as " how to get a boyfriend" and " what Alexandra really thinks of Leona ! " this makes a reader want to read more as they feel disadvantaged and like they have been misunderstood if they don't read it.
The target audience for the magazine is clear by the front cover.Firstly, statistics show that more females than males buy the magazine , therefore the colours are generally more feminine such as bright pinks and yellows . I think the class of this magazine would be lower class because of the language used "14 half-dressed hotties!" this informal language gives an impression it's for people with less class.I think the age group for this magazine varies but I personally think the main ages are early teens , partly because of the layout being quite childish with the models pulling silly /cheesy facial expressions.
The image relates to the story of " 43 snogs&one broken heart" because the main story is about the boy band JLS.The image of the band is of them looking happy and smiling , this gives the impression its a happy and uplifting magazine.I think they have chosen to use this band because they are very popular with the magazines target audience.Furthermore , the boy band are from the Xfactor show , which is looked down on as a lower class programme. Therefore they expect this target audience to watch the programme as it is stereotypically in there interest. The picture is posed , they have posed in a certain way , especially the main singer Aston. He's got his mouth wide open as if in shock , this cheesy pose adds to the style of the magazine. He is also wearing a top full of lipstick marks on it,this links to the main story being " 43 snogs&one broken heart" .The rest of the band are smiling and looking confident with a slight cheeky grin. They are all facing the camera and making eye contact which makes the image appear more personal and direct.
The magazine cover has a bar code , a price (£2.85) and a date (14th October-10th November 09)
Every magazine issue there are 56 pages.
The main sells on the magazine are "How to get a boyfriend by the Saturdays" , " Cheryl " I've made every mistake in the book" , "What Alexandra really think of Leona" , " Huge Taylor poster" , " copy Kristen's style" and "Stabbed for saying my name".I think these main sells are there to make the magazine seem more busy and has alot to offer inside , which encourgages readers to buy the magazine.
The main stories are all quite different.Firstly, there is an interview with Cheryl Cole as she has been quoted to say " I've made every mistake in the book" , they have chosen a stereotypical role model for that target audience for the interview to increase more people to buy the magazine.Another main story is the one linked with the main image , "43 snog&one broken heart.. kiss tell .. JLS confess!" this is to also make the reader want to read about it.Although , the magazine has overexadurated the story and has gave a different impression from the heading to what the story is actually about , again this is another way of attracting the target audience by shock tactic.Another story is " Copy Kristen's style" this is another inspiration figure to the target audience and the people that made the magazine believe that people would want to look like her. This is also a persuasive technique to buy the magazine, by saying you could have " Kristen's style " if you buy and read the magazine.
Smash Hits - Front cover
I think they have given this magazine the name " Smash hits " because it represents music " hits" .Also the title is catchy and the word " smash" creates a sense of shock , which could represent the shock of the content inside the magazine.
The font is very modern and curvey which gives an idea it is a magazine for girls. The font size are all fairly big and bold , this makes the writting stand out alot more. The font is also sans serif.
The main colour used is pink , this connotes feminine and girly which gains an impression that the target audience is for early teen girls.Four colours are used , but there are lots of different shades of pinks used. The main colour doesnt really fit in with the main image however , the pink contrasts with the models black t.shirt which compliments the two colours.
The language is fairly informal "19 red carpet looks you'l love" .The front cover also uses alliteration "my mental mind" this creates a melodic effect and a " rolls off the tongue" effect. The magazine cover uses numbers "6 new songs " "19 red carpet ..".The language used is also quite dramatic and is obvious that it has selected a few words a celebrity has said and gave it a different meaning to what it is " inside my mental mind " is an example of this .It gives the reader the impression that Preston has a psychological problem or thinks really strange things. This appeals to the reader as it makes them want to read more.
We can see this magazine is for young teen girls because of the colours being bright pinks.I would say this magazine was for a lower class audience because I think the front cover looks cheap and quite tacky by the bright colours and being overcrowded. Also the images used are ones that the girls would either inspire to look like or be with , for example Chantelle. This really appeals to the target audience as the girls would want to copy her hair style / clothes etc from the images.
The image suggests a good looking male at the front of the cover to appeal to teenage girls in particular.Girls will think he is good looking and want to read about him.The model is posing , which makes the photo seem more professional. The model is wearing a black t.shirt which contrasts with the bright pink writting , this compliments the colours used in the magazine. The model is slightly smiling which makes the magazine appear like a happy magazine , however the model looks quite serious , perhaps to show the seriousness of the story line " inside my mental mind" .
There are alot of main sales used , such as " 19 red carpet looks" ," what stars really think about charntelle ", "stars exposed " lots of story lines on the front cover makes the magazine seem like it's worth the money and has alot of information in it .
Information is used on the cover such a barcode , price and date.
The main storys of the magazine are "inside my mental mind" as it is layed out in a bigger font, this will be a interview .Interviews are normally very expensive with celebritys so magazines have to get as much information out of them as possible and gain maximum credit for it.
Contents page - Mizz magazine

The contents page of Mizz magazine is split into catergories such as " celeb" , " real life ", "you , " fun " this makes the page more organised and pleasing to look at.There are lots of different images which relate to the page information and it's storys. This magazine is obviously for females by the feminine colours used ,pinks , yellows and bright turquoise colours. The images are appealing for the target audience for example Zac Efron who is very popular with a younger target audience , therefore readers will be interested in buying the magazine. There are different fonts used on the contents page , for example " welcome " has been designed to look pretty and girly , again this links with the target audience being females.
Double page Spread

The language used in the double page spread is very informal and chatty style for example "gross", " sarah snogs dogs " " omg" , this stereotypically is how the target audience speaks , therefore this magazine wanted them to feel comftable with it and enjoy reading it even more. The tone of the page is very relaxed and quite jokey "you'd think it would be cold up in Canada" , the magazine is written as though someone is actually saying it , " But who cares" either way he looks amazing.More please Zac!"Alot of images are on the page , fourteen are used in total. Lots of images makes the pages more pleasent to read as it isnt dominated by writting , however top of the pops magazine does the oppposite and the pages are dominated with images , although this looks very colourful , it also looks quite cheap and tacky , especially because they are not professional photos they're just mid-motion celebrity shots. The double page spread uses alot of writting on the photograph such as arrows and captions "gross" " omg zac stripped .. again" this makes the magazine look more artistic and a different type of form to other magazine where there would be a block of writting and a few pictures.Using arrows and chatty / informal speach makes it more personal.
