First Front Cover

This is one of my flat plans for my magazine front cover.I think it conforms and rejects the magazine design of real pop magazine .Firstly , I think the name is very well suited and blends in well with my chosen genre.I think the story lines are very similar for example " how to get cheryl coles style " i took this idea from the top of the pops magazine. The front cover layout is similar such as having a head shot , this is common in pop magazines. However , i can see the downfalls in my work such as making my image look more professional and not an" out of place " look. The same goes for the storyline headings , some of them do not blend in well with the magazine , so perhaps i need to add more images , especially if i look at top of the pops magazine , it uses alot of images for the front cover.
If i choose this design for my front cover , at the time of designing it I was not sure what model i was going to use , therefore i was not sure on colours.I wanted colours that matched well with their skin tone / hair colour etc.Now that i have found a model , i will probabaly use a bubble gum pink colour as my background. As my model will probably be wearing blue and black , therefore my colours wont clash , but contrast. My chosen font will be " disko" (from the website www.dafont.co.uk ) I have decidid this by giving a list of fonts to people and getting them to choose their favourite.I will make the tittle "starz" in a bright yellow , to connote the idea of stars and to give it a quite young/ happy feel to the magazine.I will make my headings either black or blue or red, this is to match my models clothing and to make the magazine look colourful.
Front Cover
This is my second magazine front cover.I wanted to make a second so that I can get peoples opinions on what looks best.I think this front cover also conforms and rejects the theme of a pop magazine front cover.Firstly , i think the layout of all the headings need to be more evenly spread out , they look quite randomly placed , therefore that could be an improvement. However , i do think the theme of a pop magazine is evident , as i have just wrote on the magazine what colour it is going to be , i think the colours will have a dramatic effect on the front cover and give it that cheesy feel.I also think the actual heading story lines are extremly similar to ones in pop magazines like top of the pops.I also need to improve the fonts on both front covers. At the time i was unsure what font i was going to use so i improvised .Therefore i do realise the font will look alot beter when i make the actual magazine.
If i choose this magazine as my front cover , i would use a similar colour scheme to the magazine front cover above. As i woud use the same model for both , i will use a black , blue or red.As a background i would probably use white to make the writting stand out more. Also when i made this , I was going to name my magazine "volume " i have actually changed my mind , so it would be "starz" as i felt it was more suited to this genre. As "disko" (from the website http://www.dafont.co.uk/) was my most popular font , I will therefore be using it for my text.
Contents page
Contents page

This is my magazines contents page.I feel this conforms and rejects the theme of a pop magazine.Firstly , I think the use of images is very similar to pop magazines and the busy overcrowded look. However , the layout of having a picture of the front cover in the middle , i have not came across in a pop magazine before.Although it will look different , i think it will make the magazine look more unique. The colours i would use for this would be similar to my front cover such as black , blue and red.I also want to use lots more colour on this page to make it stand out and look colourful and uplifting.I will also use the same font that I have used for my front cover "disko" I want my magazine to look professional therefore I want the font to match.
Second contents page
This flat plan has came out fairly blury when I tryed to scan it so it does not seem very clear. This is my idea for my contents page to put my contents page into sections , I will use 4 images of what looks to be like popstars.I will do three columns about the music pages, celeb pages and "cool stuff" which contains competitions etc.I have also done a star shape at the bottom of the page, in this I will do a personal note to the readers saying thankyou for buying the magazine and what this magazine will contain. It was hard getting ideas for my contents page as i had no inspiration because top of the pops do not have a contents page.I had to be quite imaginative and think would it would look like if they did have a contents page.I will use bright colours for my contents , such as a bright pink/orange etc.I probably will not use a font from the " da font" website just to make it clearer on the page the layout and where everything is.
Double page spread
This is one of my double page spread flat plans. For my double page spread I have been contenplating doing a interview of a Xfactor winner about how his life is etc.I have chosen to do this because I know that my target audience probably do watch Xfactor therefore they will be more wanting to read it and buy my magazine.I want to make this page bright and colourful like how top of the pops magazine is.I will probably use 3 images where he does different poses to give the page more variety.I need to be careful not to use too much text because I am aware that pop magazines mainly use images rather than text so perhaps when I do my double page spread in indesign I will need to use less text and more shapes/colour/image. I probably will not use the website " dafont " for any of my text on my double page spread as using this website means i will have to redo my font everytime to see what it will look like. Therefore I am going to use a font on indesign for my double page. The colours I would probably use for this would be bright colours such as blue, orange, yellow etc to make the page seem brighter.

This is my second flat plan for my double page spread.I felt like doing something different than a interview, review etc so i decidid that alot of magazines do this design with questions leading to answers.Young people often enjoy doing this so I thought it would go down well with my audience. If I did this on indesign i would add alot of colour and different shapes to make the page appear fuller. If i had the time I would add 4 images of different girls one looking girly , one looking gothic etc and place it in the box.I find that young people especially early teens are discovering who they are and activitys such as this really appeals to them. The colours I would use would probably be a bright pink and black round the edges of the shapes and white inside the shapes. Each box with the "Goth girl" etc would have a colour representing there sterotype such as pink for "girly girl" as pink is a semeotic of girly and feminine. You could say that this labelling could seem offensive , however i think it would be enjoyable and fun for the readers and would not take it too seriously.
